Epublishing prizes 2012
The English and Science digital projects scooped the Pearson Education epublishing prizes this year. Students taking the epublishing module, an option of the MA publishing course, were fortunate to have Dr Liz Marchant, Head of Publishing - Science and ICT at Pearson Education, judge their work at the end of the semester.

New publishing scholarship announced from Osprey Group
Osprey Group and the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies are delighted to announce a new publishing scholarship for September 2012.
Osprey Group is offering a scholarship of £1,000 to a student taking an MA in Publishing at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University. It will be awarded to a candidate who has a particular interest in specialist niche or genre publishing. The student will also receive the guarantee of a work placement for a minimum of three weeks at the Osprey Group.
Angus Phillips, Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University, said: ‘We are delighted to announce this new scholarship from Osprey. The award will be of great benefit to a student, and they will be very pleased to have the opportunity to do a placement at such an exciting and innovative publisher.’
Rebecca Smart, CEO of Osprey Group, commented: ‘Over the years we have recruited many excellent people from Oxford Brookes, so we are very pleased to support a student there each year.’

Internships at ILO in Geneva
Each year two students from the MA in Publishing programme have the opportunity to do internships at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva. Two students, Jenny Peebles and Jorinde Singh, write about their experiences as interns over six months during 2011-12.

Stationers’ Foundation ceremony
Abigail Pukaniuk and Daniel Parker, the two recipients from Oxford Brookes in 2010 of bursaries from the Stationers’ Foundation, were made Freemen of the City livery company on Monday 24 October 2011. Abigail and Daniel have now graduated from the MA Publishing. At the same ceremony, the 2011 bursary recipients, including Emma Griffin from Oxford Brookes, were called forward by Nick Steidl, Chairman of the Foundation, to receive their certificates.

Sonic Art Research Unit visit STEIM
During 2009-2010 members of the SARU from Fine Art and Music have been collaborating with International Visiting Fellow Jos Zwaanenberg on the creation of a series of new works. Efthymios Chatzigiannis, Paul Dibley and Paul Whitty from Music visited STEIM in Amsterdam in June to work with Jos Zwaanenberg on a performance of their new works. STEIM is a centre for the research and development of instruments & tools for performers in the electronic performance arts. Early Career Fellow in Sonic Art Stephen Cornford has also created a new work for Jos which will form part of a CD release featuring all of the works... watch this space for more news!

Creative Writing student wins Deddington Short Story Prize
Gwilym Scourfield, currently studying for an MA in Creative Writing, has won the short story prize at the 2010 Deddington Festival. He scooped the £100 cash prize with his story titled ‘Cuckoo’, which he wrote as a part of his postgraduate studies.

MA CW Student Shortlisted for Bookline and Thinker’s Hookline Prize
Brookes' MA Creative Writing student Rachel Crowther's novel The Baby in the Phone Box has been shortlisted for Hookline's 2010 competition. The short list was based on book groups reading the first three chapters.These writers will now submit their complete works. These will be bound and distributed to book groups who will rate them on Writing style, character developments, plot and reader satisfaction.

MA in Book History and Publishing Culture now enrolling
The Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies has launched a new MA in Book History and Publishing Culture for September 2010.
This course in now enrolling.
This is a taught master’s course that focuses on the theory and practice of authorship, textual production, dissemination and reception in the period 1870-present day. It considers transitions in the publishing industry and the material conditions under which literary text has been produced, in national and international contexts.

Oxford Brookes Arts MA Students present ‘The Mobile Edge’ at OVADA
Students graduating from the MA Interdisciplinary Arts Programme at Oxford Brookes University this year, will be presenting their work at The Mobile Edge Festival in the OVADA gallery in Gloucester Green, the Jacqueline du Pre Building at St Hilda’s College, and in locations around Oxford in October.

The Domestic Soundscape
Felicity Ford creates podcasts for Cut & Splice co-produced by Sound and Music and BBC Radio 3.
The Domestic Soundscape is a specially commissioned podcast series for Cut & Splice: Living Rooms. Researched, recorded and produced by Felicity Ford - currently completing a PhD in Sonic Art at Oxford Brookes - the series will feature an array of sonic experiments, artists' conversations, sounds, home-recordings and compositions. Exploring the relationship between domestic space and the artists' imagination, The Domestic Soundscape podcast series will investigate the role of domestic appliances, daily routines, habits, rooms and home-recordings in contemporary sound art and composition practice.
Cut & Splice: Living Rooms brings together some of the world's leading sound artists and composers for a two day festival of performance, installation, video, broadcast, podcast and discussion that explores the beauty, memory and personal identity of sound in domestic environments. The event is set in one of London's most atmospheric spaces, Wilton's Music Hall, the last surviving and oldest grand music hall in the world.
