Another Successful Working in Publishing Day
Students on the MA programmes in Publishing Media and Digital Publishing and third year undergraduate students in Publishing participated in our annual all day event that helps them make direct, individual and personal links with people already working in the publishing industry.
This involves many companies visiting our campus to meet up with students in a 'speed dating' event which follows sessions on identifying your unique selling points, tailoring your cv to job specifications to hone your application -- all skills that are relevant to getting a job in publishing anywhere in the world.
Students make personal links with people in the visiting companies which include agents, designers, trade and academic publishers, journals publishers, and recruitment agencies.
The 2016 event took place in the 'Terrace' space at Oxford Brookes University and was well attended by over 50 companies. Please expore the photos from the event.
Towards the end of the day, the students heard an inspirational talk from Jamie Byng, MD of Canongate Books.

Scholastic signs debut author Sue Wallman
Sue Wallman, a graduate of the BA in Publishing, has signed a two-book deal with Scholastic. As reported in The Bookseller:
'Scholastic UK has signed a two-book deal with journalist and debut author Sue Wallman. The first title, a YA thriller called Lying About Last Summer, will be published in May 2016.
The story centres around a girl called Skye, who is sent to a camp for troubled teenagers after her sister dies in an accident. However, once she is at the camp she starts receiving text messages from someone pretending to be her dead sister.
Wallman is currently writer-in-residence at Kingston University and won the 2013 First Chapter Competition, part of the prestigious Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction.
She said: “The idea for Lying About Last Summer started with a swimming pool, but you’ll have to read the book to find out why! I've spent a lot of time in pools, daydreaming about being published as I plough up and down, so it's unbelievably exciting to have a two-book deal with Scholastic.”'
