Sarah Franklin from OICP interviewed in Oxford Times
The Oxford Times interviewed Sarah Franklin on the publication of the paperback of her novel Shelter: 'the captivating and heartlifting story of two lost souls who meet in the forest [of Dean]. One is Connie, who has left her bombed-out home in Coventry to join the Women’s Timber Corps. The other is Seppe, an Italian prisoner-of-war – a pacifist who enlisted to escape his abusive father, and who now finds himself bullied by a Fascist co-prisoner.'
'However thrilled [Sarah] is to be at the centre of a publishing sensation, she is careful not to let it interfere with her lecturing job on Brookes’ publishing course.
She said: “I try to keep it really separate. It is not fair to the students if suddenly I am teaching them about this novel that I am writing. “However,my colleagues have no such compunction and I have been enlisted to talk about my experience of being published. One class has used the different images of possible covers to learn about design.”'
Shelter is published by BonnierZaffre at £7.99. Sarah’s literary evenings, called Short Stories Aloud, are held at Blackwell’s, Broad Street, Oxford, each month, tickets £5. See www.blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/events
