European Arts Management Programme

The School of Arts and Humanities is delighted to announce that the European Commission has recommended a grant of €363,000 (£254,000) from the Leonardo da Vinci fund, subject to formal approval by the European Parliament, to support the Oxford Brookes European Arts Management Programme. Brookes is the lead partner in this 2-year pilot project which runs from 1 October 2006. It was initiated by Dr Jolyon Laycock, Lecturer in Arts Management and Administration.

The programme also includes a number of important research elements. During the first year partners will undertake an extensive consultation to establish specific training needs among target groups such as arts managers in the voluntary and community arts sectors, arts development officers in local government, and locally-based arts professionals and practitioners. In the second year, we will begin to identify important research themes at MA and Doctoral level. These are likely to focus on the development of new methodologies to test the effects and effectiveness of local, regional, national and European government policies in relation to the role of the creative arts in the European social agenda. Research will focus on issues of accessibility, multiculturalism, and the function of arts managers in facilitating and inspiring creative and cultural activities among all sectors of society and, in particular, in voluntary and community sectors working with disadvantaged groups in the community.
