China Focus seminar

Angus Phillips, Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies, was a guest speaker at the seminar on ‘China Focus: Opportunities in Publishing and Collaboration with the UK’, held on Friday 12 May at the China Exchange in London. Organized by Cypress Books, the seminar gathered a range of speakers and scholars engaged in the publication and curation of Chinese books, in order to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practice within the industry.

Other speakers were the sinologist Frances Wood, Emma Goodliffe (British Library), Charles Aylmer (Cambridge University Library), Shihui Weng (Royal Shakespeare Company), and the author and translator Helen Wang (British Museum).

At the accompanying book fair, there were over 1,000 titles to browse from in a beautiful book exhibition curated especially for China in Context. Showcasing the range and breadth of books about China, the beautiful display, right in the heart of Chinatown, provided a great selection of books of all genres including history and biographies, classical and contemporary literature, Chinese learning materials, children’s books, food, pop culture, art books, and arts and crafts.
