An annual event for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, Working in Publishing Day offers an afternoon of advice and networking with industry professionals, including Brookes alumni. This year over thirty companies from all sectors of publishing will participate in the speed-dating session in the afternoon - many of them are our alumni.
Headline speakers have included Richard Charkin, David Shelley, Joanna Prior, and Jamie Byng. This year we are delighted to welcome Mark Allin, CEO of Wiley from 2015 to 2017.

London Bookshop Crawl Weekend

Sarah Franklin, Senior Lecturer at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies, will be interviewing novelist Jess Kidd at Blackwell's, High Holborn on Friday, 9th February as part of the third annual London Bookshop Crawl weekend.
The London Bookshop Crawl weekend is a non-profit organisation set up to boost sales in independent bookshops during the typically quiet month of February. It hosts a range of events across the weekend, throughout a number of bookshops across London, as well as organising group tours of bookshops and operating as a meet-up for likeminded literary types.

Pasternak’s iconic love story, set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution, won him the Nobel Prize for literature, became a weapon the Cold War and was banned in Russia for over thirty years. The true story is as much a thrilling literary espionage, as a chronicle of a publishing sensation.

Students and staff from the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies (OICPS) will be busy throughout the London Book Fair, held at Olympia from the 14 to 16 March 2017.
Our stand (number 7B39) will feature our degree programmes, our staff publications, research and consultancy. We will also be promoting the June conference of the Oxfordshire Publishing Group, and the work of the University's Confucius Institute, which focuses on publishing. Our students will be helping out with the running of the fair.
On the opening morning of the fair, Angus Phillips, Director of OICPS, is chairing a seminar on 'A Gateway to China: The Work of the Confucius Institutes'. You can find out more information here
