You will have the opportunity to speak to course tutor, take a campus tour, meet current students and find out about our courses and admissions procedures. The marketplace will also have information about accommodation at the university, and finance issues.

Following the success of the previous mission to India in 2008, the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies, the Publishers Association and the Independent Publishers Guild are jointly organising a trade mission to Delhi in February 2010. The mission will include attendance at the Delhi Book Fair, presentations from key booksellers, bookshop visits, a matchmaking session with local publishers and a presentation from a selection of distributors.

The Albion Beatnik in Oxford has graciously offered up its domain for the evening in question, and for this wondrous occasion is going to metamorph into a festive highbrow arena, a flaming creative writing colosseum of sophisticated pleasures, where four erudite writers will be pitted against both each other and a Lion that's packing fancy words and a bundle of surprises, with nothing but a quill and their wits to defend themselves with.

OVADA presents Nightfair Before Christmas, an affordable art fair showcasing the best emerging art students from the Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art and Oxford Brookes Fine Art. It will include a range of value for money art and vintage fashion for purchase along with music and much more. Nightfair will extend to Modern Art Oxford as part of their Christmas Light Night Yard Party.

The Future of Journal Publishing - OPuS and SYP event

For one night only, the SYP and OPuS will be joining forces and gazing into the future to consider whether academic and STM journals have a future. How will new digital technologies and new ways of online communication affect how we publish and use journals, and the greater academic publishing community? Will researchers still communicate and be evaluated by journal publication?
To guide us through these troubled times, we will be hearing from Michael Mabe, CEO of the international association of scientific, technical, medical and scholarly publishers (STM). Be sure to make a date in your diary, for what promises to be a fascinating talk.
This event will take place at the Gipsy Lane Campus of Oxford Brookes University (refreshments will be served before the event in the Buckley Building and the talks will be in the Main Lecture Theatre).

The Fine Art and Foundation Art & Design courses at Oxford Brookes University will be holding a subject open afternoon on 25 November 2009. The event will be based in the Richard Hamilton Building, on the Headington Hill campus, which is home to the Arts department. You are invited to see the department in action, visit studio spaces, meet current students and find out about our courses and admissions procedures. Subject sessions for each course will give you an overview of the course, and you will have the opportunity to ask more specific questions at the central marketplace, open from 12-3. The marketplace will also have information about accommodation at the university, and finance issues.

James Saunders (Bath Spa University)

James Saunders is a composer and has been working on an extended modular composition, #[unassigned], since 2000. He performs in the duo Parkinson Saunders, and with Apartment House. He is Head of the Centre for Musical Research at Bath Spa University. Recent publications include The Ashgate Research Companion to Experimental Music (2009) and he is currently working on an AHRC funded project investigating text scores.

By the close of the last millennium Dorling Kindersley had become one of the most recognisable brands in publishing. Across the range of illustrated household reference titles, from children's books to travel guides, its distinctive look of colourful images cut out against a white background could be seen on bookshelves throughout the country - and indeed the publishing world.
Christopher Davis is uniquely positioned to tell the story of DK's rise and fall. He joined the company at its foundation and in due course became Group Publisher. The narrative he provides is a dual one, encompassing the visionary genius of Peter Kindersley and the publishing revolution he fomented, and charting the remarkable, sometimes precarious, frequently hilarious, roller-coaster ride as the company grew from a handful of people in a studio in South London to a substantial global business.
