Alumni - Ross Fraser, MA Publishing

I originally applied to the MA at Brookes armed with nothing more than my undergraduate degree and a passion for storytelling. I was devoted to narrative in all of its forms and I was seeking for a way to channel that passion – for me the MA was a route into turning that into a tangible and productive career.

My first role in publishing came 3 months prior to completing the course, where I was fortunate enough to work with my favourite children’s publisher, David Fickling, to help set up and then oversee the marketing and sales efforts for The Phoenix - the first children’s comic to have been created in the UK for over 30 years.

I am now currently working as Head of Marketing at John Murray Learning where I steer the marketing for a number of global brands and have been fortunate enough to collaborate with some of the largest and most successful media, and digital technology companies in the world. My work is incredibly varied covering everything from standard marketing campaigns and community management through to partnership development and brand strategy.

My time on the MA gave me the relevant knowledge, expertise and confidence to succeed in the publishing industry. Most notably though it gave me access to a creative and industrial network that has proven invaluable in my career development.
