Pearson Prizes for ePublishing students

We are very grateful to Pearson Education for their involvement with the epublishing module, a part of the Publishing MA at Oxford Brookes University. Students taking the course worked on proposals for new online educational resources and developed websites based on Pearson's Heinemann Secondary School range of books.

The course culminated in students presenting proposals for their new digital products while demonstrating their prototype websites. Lecturing staff graded students as normal and Marc Bloche, Head of Digital Publishing for the Secondary Division came to choose first and second prize winners.

Marc said he was impressed with the "amazing" projects the students had been busy creating. He enthustiastically commented that many of the ideas had real commercial potential.

The first prize of £350 went to Daniella Bourke for a website which was based on the Heinemann's Themes in R.E. book and Teacher's Resource file. Marc choose this as a winner because Daniella really knew her market, and the proposed website contained many features that the customer-base were shown to have needed.

Second prize of £150 went to Drew Stanley for a website to accompany Heinemann's AQA GSCE Physical Education print products. Drew proposed a website with a difference - part of it was optimized for reading via mobile phones. Marc Bloche said "This is the first time a mobile site has really made sense to me".
