OICP student takes part in BBC Children in Need
Media Journalism and Publishing student Rosie (aka Roisin) Clear has been selected to take part in the Rickshaw Challenge for BBC's Children in Need to raise money for charity.
The challenge which is now in its 10th year, takes place at Goodwood in West Sussex from Friday 6 November. The team will cover a variety of terrains to reach their target each day, in time for a live broadcast on The One Show each night at 7.00pm.
The first Rickshaw Challenge took place on public roads from Edinburgh to London and raised £1.9 million. To remain Covid-19 safe, the public will not be able to attend this year. The six riders of the rickshaws will travel approximately 332 miles, the equivalent as the crow flies, of the distance from Edinburgh to London.
Rosie commented:
‘A member of the charity I’m raising money for put me forward, as she thought I’d be right for it. The charity is called the Pace Centre which helps children with motor disorders like myself - I have Cerebral Palsy which mainly affects my legs - meaning I have trouble walking. We were given a training plan by the BBC physio, so I have been following that, visiting the gym a lot - almost everyday just to build up my leg strength, so that’s using the bike, using the leg-press and floor work such as bridges, among other things.
It’s honestly such an honour to be involved, I didn’t think I would get this far, I’m so happy to be involved with such a nice team and to give back to Pace, because they have helped my development since I was three - I feel it’s only right to give back!’
