London Book Fair 2017

Students and staff from the Centre (Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies) were busy throughout the London Book Fair, held at Olympia from the 14th to 16th March 2017.

The Oxford Brookes stand featured our degree programmes, our staff publications, research and consultancy. We also took this opportunity to promote the June conference of the Oxfordshire Publishing Group, and our July summer school for Chinese publishers. Over 45 students helped out with the running of the fair, including manning the seminar rooms and the Author HQ, with two students helping on the Frankfurt Book Fair stand.

On the opening morning Angus Phillips, Director of OICPS, chaired a seminar on the work of the Confucius Institutes in the UK – at Oxford Brookes the Institute has a focus on publishing. Later that day he participated in a seminar about data in publishing and the project BookMap, which aims to provide access to statistics for the international industry.

On the Wednesday afternoon we hosted a reception for Oxford Brookes publishing alumni and friends of OICPS. As usual there was a celebratory cake, which this year featured the fourth volume of The History of Oxford University Press – three chapters are authored by Angus Phillips and Adrian Bullock from OICPS.
