London Book Fair

The Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies had a stand at the London Book Fair at Earl’s Court in April.

Seen here are Angus Phillips and Jan Kasprzycki-Rosikon, MA class 2004-5, Head of Rights at Pearson Education.

We were delighted to see many of our alumni, who were working at the Fair and came to visit us. Some of our present students helped with promotion, distributing leaflets and wearing Publishing@brookes T-shirts around the Fair.

Angus Phillips, Director of the Centre, chaired a seminar at the Fair on publishing education and training in Europe. The panel members were Steffen Hillebrecht, Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Kultur (HTWK), Leipzig, Miha Kovac, Department of Library and Information Science and Book Studies, University of Ljubljana, and Susan Pickford, Centre for Book Trade Studies, University Paris X Nanterre. The lively discussion covered a range of issues such as the difference between education and training, the development of large media groups with interests in many European countries, and how national differences remain in publishing and publishing education.

A new initiative, Oxford Publishing and Digital Media (OPDM), was launched at the Fair. OPDM provides a range of services for the publishing industry, including international consultancy, continuing professional development, research, digital media solutions and state-of-the-art training facilities.
