Harcourt Education award epublishing prizes

Harcourt Education, a publishing company with local offices in Oxford, have been involved with the MA epublishing module here at Brookes for the seventh year running. Small teams of students developed new electronic prototype products based on Harcourt’s Heinemann books.

At the end of the course the prototype websites were presented and in addition to each one being graded as normal, Ian Cavey, e-Learning and Online Manager, and Dr Liz Marchant, Publishing Manager, from Harcourt were in attendance to choose first and second prize winners.

Dr. Liz Marchant said:

“Yet again this year I've been impressed by the sheer quality of the proposals, not only the ideas but the professional prototypes and good presentations. “

The first prize of £350 went to a group of three students, Eva Kneissl , Jill Kovacs, and Julie Robillard for their web site “REThink”, which was based on the Heinemann Themes in RE: Learning from Religions, a book targeting key stage 3.

Second prize of £150 went to Jess Fawcett, Louise Gouws, and Aisling Hanrahan for their website designed to accompany a Hairdressing book from the Heinemann vocational list.
Winners were commended on the level of thought that had gone into satisfying the needs of their specific market, whether this was a high level of dyslexia in Hairdressing (and the implications on visual design) or using familiar pupil or teacher language to indicate navigation around the product.
