Electronic Publishing Prizes

Harcourt Education, a publishing company with local offices in Oxford, have been involved with the MA electronic publishing module for the third year running. Small teams of students have developed new electronic prototype products based on Harcourtís Heinemann secondary school books. At the end of the module the prototype websites were presented and in addition to each one being graded as normal, representatives from Harcourt were in attendance to choose first and second prize winners. Denise Kilkenny, Secondary Marketing Manager for Heinemann, was impressed with the students and reported ďA very high standard overall made this a very difficult competition to judge. The presentations were lively and entertaining and very enjoyable to watch. It was hard to believe that the students had spent only a few weeks on these projects, starting from nothing and with no previous experience.Ē The first prize of £350 went to a group of four students, Andy Collings, Jennifer Roberts, Emma Schumacher-Voelker and Anna Thomas who produced a web site based on the Heinemann Think History: Changing Times 1066-1500 foundation level book. Second prize of £150 went to Caroline Roberts, Jill Wadell and Tashi Wheeler for their website based on the Heinemann imprint New Windmill, a series of books of pre-1914 short stories targeting key stage 3.
