Chinese Publisher’s Brookes Lecture featured in Chinese Journal

An article has appeared in the Chinese Journal Publishing Today.

The lecture was structured around three connected themes: the history of English language learning in China from 1949 to the present day; the achievements and problems of English language learning; and the publishing opportunities that the increase in English language learning in China has brought about for Chinese as well as international publishers. 

Mr Li started his lecture with a review of the context of English language learning in China, taking into account the influence of the Cultural Revolution between 1966-1976, and from there moved on to look at how English language learning has boomed in recent years, the impact that this has had on publishing, and the problems that English language learners encounter in China. The lecture closed with a look at the lessons the Chinese publishing industry can draw from other international publishers, and what international publishers can learn from China.
