British Book Design and Production Awards 2018
The 2018 British Book Design and Production Awards were held at the Montcalm Marble Arch Hotel in London on 22 November 2018. The evening was hosted by author and comedian Adam Kay, who rose to fame with his book This is going to Hurt, which recounts his career as a junior doctor. An instant Sunday Times bestseller with over 700,000 copies sold, it has won numerous literary prizes. Adam entertained guests throughout the evening and presented a total of 19 awards.
That Book created by Eszter & David and Hurtwood Press was the star of the evening, triumphing in Digitally Printed Books and also securing the prestigious title of Book of the Year. The judges were captivated by the attention to detail, and said it was ‘devoid of boundaries and designed with boundless imagination’.
As one of the most prestigious and popular literary events of the year, the British Book Design and Production Awards recognize the excellence of the British book design and production industry by celebrating the year’s best books. The awards are designed to represent everything that is best in British book design and are seen as the flagship event in the industry’s year. The Awards are run in association with BookMachine, Oxford Brookes University, The Bookseller, and The Publishers Association.
Angus Phillips, Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing, presented the award in the Educational Books category, sponsored by Oxford Brookes, to Button Books for My First Book of Quantum Physics.
A panel consisting of industry experts from the design, publishing and production industries met over two days at Oxford Brookes University to select the shortlisted entries and winners.
