British Book Design and Production Awards 2013

The British Book Design and Production Awards took place on 4 November 2013 at a glittering event at the prestigious Grange St Paul's Hotel. The speaker was journalist, author, comedian and producer, Will Gompertz, who kept the audience entertained throughout the night.

As one of the most prestigious and popular literary events of the year, the British Book Design and Production Awards recognize the excellence of the British book design and production industry by celebrating the year’s best books. The awards are designed to represent everything that is best in British book design and are seen as the flagship event in the industry’s year. The event is supported by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF), Oxford Brookes University, and the Publishers Association.

The outright winner of the awards was Lawrence King Publishing who came out top in three categories including the Book of the Year with The Purple Book. The judges all commended the book on its wide appeal, stating that the book set new heights in terms of quality and presentation. The judges all agreed that the ‘combination of materials, attention to finish, the production, concept and design’, all contributed to The Purple Book being a clear front runner.

Angus Phillips, Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies, presented the award for Brand/Series identity, sponsored by Oxford Brookes, to Priddy Books for their Hello Baby series.

A panel consisting of industry experts from the design, publishing and production industries met over two days at Oxford Brookes University to select the shortlisted entries and winners.
