Bookseller article on Macmillan and Springer merger

The Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies, Angus Phillips, was interviewed for an article in The Bookseller on the merger between Macmillan and Springer.

‘The merger makes sense,’ said Angus Phillips, director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University. ‘It creates a diverse portfolio: Macmillan has the international schools business and Palgrave, which broadens Springer more generally. Springer has a big range of journals, and adding a heavy-hitting brand like Nature in there will be good for an IPO. If the future is about not just content but solutions, a larger company can invest in that and make a stronger offer to professionals.’
