Her professional publishing life is complemented by a strong academic background and active research interests in print and digital cultures and literary and cultural history. Janet’s publishing life in UK started at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing and Journalism, having arrived from South Africa as a graduate student from the University of Cape Town. She went on to work in editorial roles in the UK with global remits for Helicon, Elsevier, and then Taylor & Francis where she has been promoted several times. Over the years, she has undertaken further (mostly part-time) Masters degrees in Creative Writing (London) and African Studies (Oxford) and then a PhD in Literature (York). Janet has served on the Board of ORCID and is currently on the Executive Council of the Research for Life Partnership and the Council of the African Studies Association of the UK. She is an advocate for Global South inclusion and equitable partnerships.
