Jamie started his career working for a small chain of Scottish booksellers, before joining Hodder & Stoughton as a Management trainee, working in a variety of roles in editorial and sales before becoming Managing Director of Hodder & Stoughton publishing major brands like Stephen King, John Grisham, Jodi Picoult and prize-winners including David Mitchell and David Nicholls, and Non-Fiction, where for the Hodder & Stoughton have published the biggest books of the year, with Miranda Hart, Sir Alex Ferguson, Lynda Bellingham and Ella Woodward. In 2010 Jamie became the CEO of Hodder & Stoughton, Headline Publishing Group and John Murray Press. In 2014 Hodder & Stoughton acquired Quercus Editions Ltd. He left Hachette to start a new publishing company Bedford Square Publishers, which launched at the end of 2022, and acquired No Exit Press in January 2023.
