You're a marketer for the Man, but your job is to hide that. Your promotions budget is smaller than your last pay cheque. Or you think you can promote your book better than your publisher. As a player in the competitive publishing landscape, you need to be increasingly savvy to ensure that the right messages get to the right people to grow your sales, inform your promotions and basically help you convince your customers that you’re a cool business full of equally great people.
Our first speaker meeting of the 2011 academic year brings together a fantastic panel of social media experts from both inside and outside the industry to help you understand how you can make social media work for you.

- Joe Pickering, Publicity Manager at Penguin, reveals how he used social media to transform his fiction campaign, leading to a bestseller title and Bookseller Industry award for Publicity Campaign of the Year.
- Liz Murray from LJInteractive, a publishing specialist PR consultancy, gives us a close-up on Twitter helping you know what, when and to whom to Tweet and what you can expect to gain from it.
- Ardie Collins, author of Cult Fiction (Knightstone), explains how he's effectively managed the promotion of his first novel via social media and how authors can best exploit these channels.
- Alex Martin, Social Media Consultant for 77PR, guides us through projects beyond the publishing industry to give us a broader perspective on digital strategy.
