Publishing and the Environment - OPUS event

Time: 6.30 pm drinks, 7.30 pm talks

Speakers: Edward Milford (Earthscan), Carole Richmond (Wiley)

Taking Place: Oxford Brookes University, Gipsy Lane Campus in Semester 1 2008

Edward will talk on ‘Greening Your Publishing” and will aim to cover - A few orders of magnitude figures on outputs, CO2 etc. - The need for a system/committee/process/measurement and our experience with it - Some of the non-manufacturing considerations (office energy, travel, etc) - Some thoughts on the future, including some electronic publishing impact thoughts; scale of changes needed; limits to growth conundrum

Carole's talk will span the environmental life cycle of a book from tree to toilet tissue! She will be concentrating on paper sourcing and the various ways that publishers can ensure appropriate sources and use for this increasingly environmentally sensitive commodity.
