Project Management

Anne Waddingham (Professional editor and trainer in publishing services; Advanced and Registered member of SfEP)

Taking Place: The King’s Centre, Osney, Oxford

This one-day workshop gives an overview of the range of tasks involved in managing a publishing project and how they can be handled, highlighting the skills and qualities needed and discussing how to develop them. Through group discussion and practical exercises, you progress through a theoretical project from typescript to printer-ready files. The course encourages a problem-solving approach while focusing on the key tasks: assessment; contracts and estimating; communication; planning; briefing copyeditors, proofreaders, illustrators, designers, picture researchers, indexers and typesetters; keeping within budgets and schedules; giving feedback; managing the handover; and planning your next move. This course will be certified by the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.
