The Avant-Gardes and Speculative Technology Project
Eric White, Senior Lecturer in American Literature (Oxford Brookes University, Department of English)
Taking Place: Chakrabharti Room, JHB, Oxford Brookes University
What does Augmented Reality have to do with Modernist 'reading machines'? Join Dr. Eric White, Senior Lecturer in American Literature and co-founder of the Avant-Gardes and Speculative Technology (AGAST) Project, to find out! He'll introduce you to Bob Brown's Reading Machine, a revolutionary idea from the 1930s that anticipated the rise of electronic media and virtuality. The session will include an exhibit of AGAST's re-imagined reading machines, which feature contributions from renowned British novelist Iain Sinclair. Eric will also talk about opportunities for helping AGAST publish its archive. This project will include the new AGAST Reading Machine, which we are developing with the Microsoft Hololens and a rising star of the British poetry scene, Jay Bernard.
