This three-day conference brings together industry professionals, educators, and scholars to examine key issues around the digital transformation of the book, as well as to discuss the developing field of publishing studies. 

The European Publishing Studies Association (EuroPub), founded in 2016, aims to foster the exchange of knowledge around the contemporary book trade.  This three-day conference brings together industry professionals, educators, and scholars to examine key issues around the digital transformation of the book, as well as to discuss the developing field of publishing studies. Presentations will take different forms to accommodate the range of academic, professional, educational, and independent voices that make By the Book, now in its fourth year, such a unique conference.

Plenary speakers:

Michael Bhaskar is a writer, researcher and digital publisher. He is Co-Founder of the digital publisher Canelo. He has written a prize-winning monograph, The Content Machine (Anthem Press 2013), a groundbreaking academic exploration of the past, present and future of publishing. His new book, Curation: The Power of Selection in a World of Too Much (Little, Brown Piatkus) was published in 2016 and he is co-editor (with Angus Phillips) of the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Publishing (OUP).

Sam Bruinsma has been in publishing for close to thirty years. He has been with Brill since 1998, after ten years at Wolters Kluwer. Currently he is Senior Vice-President Business Development. His current contributions to the industry include chairing STM’s Standards & Technology Committee, and acting as treasurer for the Dutch collective rights organization PRO. He holds an MA in Social Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam.
